Ryan Wenick

Stylist

What has been your career highlight so far?
My biggest career highlight is moving out of my small town to follow my dreams as a hairdresser in a big city. I always wanted more growing up and I’m so thankful I followed my heart. When I got to Chicago I met some other creative minds and we began to create and do photo/video shoots every Sunday. This caliber of vision, discipline and creativity is something I’ve been seeking in my 10 years behind the chair.
Describe your personal style or aesthetic.
I would consider my personal style as Classic meets streetwear. A couple of my favorite designers are Rhuigi Villasenor and Jerry Lorenzo.
What is your approach to doing hair?
My approach always starts with the texture of your hair and what you like and dislike. Then it’s all about face shape – I’ll figure out what’s going to make you look the absolute best you can. I also like to converse to learn a little about you, what you do, what you’re into so I can figure out your vibe. My mother, a hairdresser as well, told me something that always sticks in my head. “Ryan, Listen to what they want, you never want a woman mad at you.” So simple, but this wisdom has kept me in the clear for a long time.
